This superb holiday cottage in the conservation Seatown area of Gardenstown, was originally a fisherman’s cottage, built in the 19th century, and is directly on the Moray Firth seafront, where it is possible to sight the local school of dolphins from within the cottage.
Lie in bed listening to the sound of the waves lapping on the sea wall, directly below you.
The inside of the property has been updated while still retaining the traditional features of generations past. Our lounge now features three windows with views of the Moray Firth which is approx. 3 metres from the gable of the house at high tide. Gannet Cottage also features a large eating kitchen; bathroom with bath and shower over; and upstairs, one double bedroom and one twin bedroom.
When the tide is in the water is directly below you, and when the tide is out the shore clears to leave a beach of sand and then sandstone rocks and pools which become home and feeding grounds to all types of seabirds.
Cosy down for the evening and Gannet Cottage has a wood burning stove, fibre optic wi-fi, a wall mounted flat screen television with Netflix and a “Bose” sound deck to allow you to bluetooth your favourite music.
The ground floor has a sitting lounge with stunning sea views from three windows: a spacious eating kitchen and a modern bathroom.
Being originally a local fisherman’s cottage from the 1800’s we have modernised the cottage and brought it up to date but have tried to keep the character of this unique fisherman’s cottage which still has original features including: lower ceilings and smaller doorways than a present day home; the main bedroom with the original entrance step directly off the stairway; the original wood slatted eaves in the bedroom etc, etc.
The cottage sleeps four, with a double and a twin bedroom.
This is a traditional old local cottage, and low roofs and a step into the bedroom from the stairs have been left as they were “back in the day”.
We supply towels for indoor use and all bedding.
Originally the cottage had no windows in the gable facing the sea as one of the main aims when the cottage had been built would have been protection from the weather and storms. By taking out a window looking directly out over the sea to the horizon and another with a view towards the harbour entrance has transformed the sitting area. In summer time it also makes it a great room to end the day watching the fantastic sunsets …
Electricity used is on a trust basis and payable by meter reading at the end of your stay. Heating is by electric panel heaters, some underfloor heating and by wood burning stove. We leave an initial supply of logs to get you started.
